Restaurant Review
Greenacres Bistro is probably the most impressive looking restaurant in Wexford Town. This purpose built Bistro is part of the Greenacres Food store, Wine shop and Art Gallery in the Selskar area of the Town. On a large corner site the Bistro is a contemporary space behind large glass walls. Large wooden tables are well spaced and there is plenty to look at while you browse, from the fine wines surrounding you to the artisan foods and kitchen goodies in the deli area.
The team of chefs at Greenacres Bistro produce European style dishes, a fusion of wonderful flavours inspired by the Mediterranean and its use of the freshest ingredients and herbs which are grown locally. The beef and chicken is Irish and the mussels and seafood are caught off the coast of Wexford. The foie gras of course is French! The menu at the bistro changes seasonally dependent on what produce is available, ensuring that flavour is at a premium.
There is also one of the largest wine lists in the country, nearly all of which have been handpicked by James O’Connor and Donal Morris who make regular trips or perhaps pilgrimages to the finest wine producers in the world.
We recently had lunch there with another of Wexford’s fine chefs, Kevin Carley from Le Tire Bouchon. We enjoyed an excellent roast lamb for me, while Kevin had the homemade Toulouse sausages. An imminent trip for dinner is on the cards, and we will be updating the review soon. In the meantime, we heartily recommend Greenacres Bistro; it is one of Wexford’s finest.
