In what is perhaps one of the most picturesque locations in Ireland, you will find Harvey’s Point, only a short distance from Donegal town. The exterior is reminiscent of a Swiss chalet, albeit a big one. When you discover that the family who own it are Swiss, it all of course makes sense. Once inside however, the luxurious interior is all cream marble, gentle lighting and beautiful chandeliers and a friendliness that has had every worth-while guide sing their praises. This hotel has developed into the market leader of the Northwest and is striving to become one of the leading hotels in Ireland.
The restaurants occupy a hugely important place in Harveys Point. The food is really very good, as the legions of well dressed locals who come here to expereince something a little bit special will attest to. Head chef Paul Montgomery has been in charge for three years now and has developed a series of menus that rely on local produce, flair and simplicity of execution.
The restaurant sweeps right down to the shores of Lough Eske, providing breath-taking views over the lake. The classic presentation adds to the allure – crisp linen, sparkling silverware and glasses and original artworks. Restaurant manager Damien MsClay and his team run the front of house like clockwork, leaving you nothing more troublesome to do than enjoy the food.
The menus change regularly, but expect statrers like Scallops with Orange Carpaccio, Orange Dressing and Parsnip Purée or Roast Black Pudding with White Onion Ice Cream, Pickled Apples,
Bellingham Blue Cheese and a Guinness Glaze. The main courses will tempt you with Pan Fried Fillet of Halibut, Colcannon Mash, Poached Cockles with Julienne of Carrot and Chardonnay and
Chicken Roasting Juices. Or how about seared loin of Black Angus Beef, Braised Cheek, Bone Marrow,
Crushed Carrot and Parsnip with Glazed Baby Onions and Beef Jus.
If they sound good, they’ll sound even better when you realise that these could make up part of a four course dinner, priced at an incredible €59, which for food of this caliber is ridiculous value. So to paraphrase a famous actress, go along to Harvey’s Point, you know you’re worth it, and we think they are too.

Since enjoying a transformation back in March, One Pico is packing them in for what is probably the best value lunch in the City, with two courses on offer for €19.95 and Three for €25. The decor is fab, food brilliant and the value truly surprising. Don't miss it, this can't last forever.
We love Seargrass in Portobello. Sean is one of the city's most talented chefs and is constantly coming up with new dishes and tastes to tantilize. Well now he has done it again with the new Platai Bia menu.
This is one of the best deals we have come across, not least because the items on the menu are not what you expect on a cut price menu - duck, rack of lamb and good fish dishes all appear. Telephone +353 (0) 41 9835410 or e mail info@scholarshotel.com.
